The FutuRaM project has developed the Secondary Raw Materials Knowledge Base, providing new insights into the availability and recoverability of secondary raw materials (2RMs) in the European Union, with a particular focus on critical raw materials (CRMs). The research supports fact-based decision making on the recovery and use of secondary resources both within and beyond the EU.
The data generated by the project are made accessible through the Urban Mine Platform, an interactive knowledge base that allows users to explore material stocks and recovery potential across Europe. The platform covers seven major waste streams – batteries, construction and demolition waste, wind turbines, end-of-life vehicles, mining waste, slags and ashes, and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) – and provides structured datasets and projections up to 2050.
By improving access to reliable data, the platform aims to support policymakers, industry, and researchers in advancing resource efficiency and circular economy strategies in Europe.
