As part of the WasteForce project, the United Nations Environment Program and the United Nations University SCYCLE programme held a 3-day online training workshop on the prosecution of waste crime on February 24-26, 2021. The workshop was conducted with support from WasteForce consortium partners and other partners, including INTERPOL.

The workshop gathered more than 120 participants, including representatives of prosecution and judicial authorities, customs officials, police officers, environmental inspectorate, and ministries from nations across the world—including various countries in the Asia-Pacific and Europe, as well as representatives from international organisations.

The online training was structured around a series of presentations by high-level speakers and breakout sessions discussions centred on a case study that tracked the shipment of a containers from Europe to Asia. The training offered participants a unique opportunity to exchange ideas on investigation and prosecution strategies, increase national capacities, and enhance international operational collaboration with their counterparts worldwide. The WasteForce project strives to build stronger relationships among key stakeholders in the cross-border waste chain that can be continued beyond completion of the project’s goals.
