The National E-waste Monitor 2025 – Tajikistan provides a detailed assessment of the current situation of e-waste statistics, legislation, and management infrastructure in the country. The primary objective of this report is to assist the Tajikistan in identifying decisive measures to improve the e-waste management system.

According to UNITAR’s E-waste Collected Tool, e-waste generation is projected to increase by approximately 660 tons annually, reaching nearly 36.4 kilotons (kt) per year by 2050—almost triple the 2019 figure of 12.9 kt. However, the country presently lacks capacity to effectively address the growing e-waste challenge.

Forecasting the environmental and socio-economic impacts of e-waste, the report sets out the directions of development of e-waste management system in Tajikistan to 2050 in two contrasting scenarios, focusing on the associated opportunities to avert environmental and health impacts and recycle valuable materials.

Building on this analysis, the report provides recommendations and a practical national roadmap for environmentally sound management of future e-waste developed as part of research, training, and national stakeholder dialogues.

The recommendations and roadmap include the essential steps to enhance legislation and statistics, develop infrastructure and technologies, support e-waste collection and recycling, and strengthen e-waste prevention and reuse. Key measures include defining allocating responsibilities of authorised state bodies in the field of e-waste management, developing financial incentives for e-waste recycling, including the implementation of EPR, and raising public awareness.

The establishment of a national e-waste monitor marks the initial step toward ensuring an updated baseline to strengthen the capacity of Tajikistan to effectively manage the e-waste sector.
